St. Triduana

After doing some shopping at Morrisons, Martin and I had a walk round nearby Restalrig, which was a total surprise, as it’s a lovely looking village (in part), sympathetically restored with a lot of history.

Anyway we ended up in the kirkyard where we discovered the shrine to St. Triduana.

The King’s chapel of the Collegiate church at Restalrig was built between the years 1460-77 by James III to a unique design, hexagonal in plan with two vaulted storeys. The upper chapel was destroyed in 1560.

This is the lower chapel, dedicated to St. Triduana, whose shrine at Restalrig had long been a place of pilgrimage for those afflicted with diseases of the eye.

It was all very interesting and good to get some steps in.

Have a good Saturday all.
