King Alfred's Way

King Alfred's Way is a roughly circular long-distance path and cycleway based around Winchester,  UK. Given I live somewhere near the centre,  I've divided it into short sections to do as half-say rides. The first section ridden today was Salisbury to near Pewsey. It's definitely more suited to a mountain bike than my gravel bike, with a lot of rutted byways that demand good balance and responsive steering. There are also many sections that are very uneven from horses.
However, this was a very attractive stretch that I could ride with less intense concentration.
A lot of the route runs through clay on chalk and will be very slippery going into winter.
