Vivarium

We went to get the vivarium today for the Gheko.  First we have to get the tank ready and then we will get the gheko (a crestie) in 2 or 3 weeks.  It's going to be the eldest's birthday present. She isn't having a party this year as it's been an expensive present, but it's as much for me as it is for her (but don't tell her that!).  It's not her birthday for a while but it's going to take a while to get this all ready so we got it now.

We are doing a bioactive set up which is so interesting (if you like that sort of thing like I do).  There is a drainage layer and then a membrane, and then soil.  We added some bioactive stuff to the soil and we have put in a load of springtails and isopods (otherwise known as the clean up crew).  Their job is to clean up the ghekos waste, any bacteria/mould and dead plant matter.   We need to add some plants and make sure the temperature and humidity is good, then we can get the gheko!
