The Denbigh Plum

SATURDAY

I drove over to Prestatyn for the Parkrun first thing. The weather was ideal for running – cool, dry, and sunny. I finished in 46th place with a time of 27:43.

After getting home, showered, and changed, I headed to the Tremeirchion village market where local produce was on sale. Then, it was off to Denbigh for  Covid and Influenza vaccinations – one jab in each arm. 

The town was bustling, as today was the Denbigh Plum Festival, celebrating the unique "Vale of Clwyd Denbigh Plum,"  which is a designated food item native to this area of Wales. 

While 2024 hasn't been a great year for the local plum harvest, there was still plenty of plum-themed goodies: plum liqueur, plum chocolate, plum cheese, and plum cakes. The festival also had a great variety of other gourmet foods and craft stalls. I was really impressed by how much there was to see and buy – far better than the usual farmers' markets. 

As it was almost midday and I hadn't eaten, I bought some gourmet blue oyster mushrooms on sourdough from a quirky "FunGuy stall" (see extra). We also bought up some chocolate, cakes, plum liqueur, two wooden reindeer, some smoked duck, and smoked prawns.

A stop off at Greenfingers Garden Centre, to but the last three packs of violas. It was a warm 18ºC afternoon, so I planted them out in the large pot on the back patio.

Now, as it's nearly bedtime, I’m stuck with two sore arms – Tonight’s challenge is figuring out how to sleep without rolling onto a vaccination site!
