The One
When prospectives visited
he was never mentioned.
Never shown.
But then a particular woman arrived.
A peculiar woman? Possibly.
But sure of herself.
'Are there any I've not seen? ' she asked.
'Well, there's just one.
'But...'.
'Show me,' she said.
So they did.
'Yes,' she said.
'Really? Are you sure?'
'Yes. I'm sure'
That was the moment
when sunlight broke through
the barred windows.
Birdsong was heard,
where none had existed before
and a choir,
'a heavenly choir',
began to sing.
She left that place
and he left with her.
His small hand held by hers.
