The Old Cider Press

Buckland Abbey in West Devon is quiet and peaceful at the moment. In days past the apples collected from the orchards would have been brought to the great barn to be pressed and made into cider. Today the large, very solid-looking cider press sits silently at one end of the barn. So called rough cider, sometimes referred to as scrumpy, would have been drunk by the workers, together no doubt with some merriment, and a bit of music and dancing from time-to-time!
