Team Meeting
Been out for an end of term meal with the company I do some consultancy work for. Its a long time since I had such a good curry with such congenial colleagues.
As the motorway turns into a dual carriageway leading down into the town you drive under this bridge. On the way home I stopped and took this picture for my blip.
The desperate poverty of mill workers caused by the harsh conditions of the Industrialisation of the northern towns led to a group of men in Rochdale banding together in the 1840s to open a shop to sell food at affordable prices. For months before the store opened the 30 Pioneers saved to pool a pound each to stock their shop with the basic staples - sugar, flour, oatmeal and gradually over the following months this selection was added to. The first shop went from strength to strength and within twenty years there were a thousand such shops in the country. The Co-operative movement was on it's way.
