Good mouser

Both cats have been staring at the electric fireplace on a regular basis for the past couple of weeks. The electric fireplace sits in the opening of the old fireplace, it is slightly smaller than the opening. The mesh screen is still in place and it fills the opening that is not covered by the electric fireplace. Peaches was trying to reach thru the cracks this morning. I heard her knock some plants over and she headed downstairs with something in her mouth. Yes, there was a mouse behind the fireplace and she caught it. And killed it. Both cats continue to keep a close watch on the fireplace most of the day, so I am not sure if there are more in there or not.
I had messaged the owner and her nephew on Sunday evening to tell them that I thought there were critters in the chimney. The owner made arrangements with a pest control company to come over and check things out. There are a few openings where rodents could get in. The owner said she will make arrangements to get those openings sealed up. The pest control guy told me they put a one way opening in the holes so animals can get out but they can't get back in.

I suspect the owner will need to get someone to come over and check on the furniture that she has stored in the basement. Based on what the pest control guy showed me, that's the area where they are getting in.

It was raining early this morning so I called a rain day. Then it stopped by 8 am and it was dry the rest of the day. It has been windy and the rain started again around 7:30 pm.
