S21 Construction Site

On the way to the last session of the Software Carpentry Course I decided to take a look at the construction site of the new S Bahn station at the Main Railway Station. The new line S21 goes from the Westhafen in the North to the Südkreuz in the South. It will be a much needed new North-South connection. The Northern part is nearly complete after many delays. The new station underneath the bridges of Main Station (pictured) is delayed because of construction issues of the bridges. A temporary stop has been built North of the station. I believe they have figured out what to do about the bridges and work is continuing. After long delays trains will start to run soon on the first section. The next section from the Main Station to Potsdamer Platz is about to be started. This involves drilling two new tunnels underneath the Parliament and a huge hole in front of the Brandenburger Gate (undoubtedly this will eventually feature here). The last section between Potsdamer Platz and Südkreuz is in the planning phase. All quite exciting stuff. Just a shame there are all these delays.
