Caterpillar tracks
We went to the Meeth Quarry Nature Reserve today. It wasn't the prettiest nature reserve I've ever seen, but nature's like that sometimes, especially when it moves into an abandoned quarry. It also reminded me that nature is lovely at a distance but, close up, it is often full of biting insects.
The most interesting thing we saw was this: identified by friends on Facebook as a cinnabar moth caterpillar. Its fashionable stripes are to remind hungry birds that its diet is toxic ragwort weeds and they will get indigestion if they eat it.
