Hoffman Kiln

Had a nice walk round the nearby heritage park, where I blipped the Hoffman Kiln.

The Hoffman Continuous Kiln, was built in 1937, and capable of producing bricks in huge quantities. It contained 24 chambers making 11,000 bricks at a time, suggesting a potential annual output of between 3 and 6 million bricks!

The kiln stopped making bricks in 1975, and is now part of the industrial park along with the old colliery, glassworks etc.

While it might be grey and grim out there, we are lucky not to be in Florida. I’m sure all our thoughts go to residents, hoping that they stay safe from Hurricane Milton.
