Success

Today was devoted to rather more technical discussions than yesterday. First I gave my second presentation, focusing on my analysis of the difficulties that HiGHS has (relative to the world's best commercial solver) in a few of our hosts' models. In the gentlest way possible, I made them realise that what they had hoped would be possible for them to do for themselves was rather hard, even for me. That said, a couple of the more technically minded were able to discuss some simpler modifications to what they are doing. In turn, talking in depth with people modelling a practical problem was good experience for us, as they have insights into their problems that inform my understanding of modelling.

Later, two members of another team in the company came to talk to us about a different problem (in wind farm operation management) and, although we were tired, we did come up with an approach that they hadn't considered. Hence I'm sure our hosts got value for what they paid us 

Finally it was time for us to leave, but we've enjoyed working with the group today, and I expect that we'll be back again some time. After the boss took us back to our apartment, И had energy to work, but I needed to unwind. Fortunately the sun had come out after two days of fog and low cloud, and I explored the extensive broadleaf woodlands above where we are staying. Although thunderstorms were forecast, there was only a little rain, resulting in this pretty rainbow. 

In the evening, И and I went out to eat, failing to get into the good-looking restaurant that I'd chosen, but then I found a fish restaurant that И particularly enjoyed.
