Drunken Parrot
I'm finding lots to discover as I explore my nearer parts of Brisbane. This small street tree is flowering nicely at the moment. I reckon it's Schotia brachypetala, which originates in Southern Africa - Wikipedia adds, south of the Zambezi, which I find a wonderfully romantic phrase.
Another writer explains the origin of its common name - called drunken parrot tree because dew and rainfall are often captured in the upright red flowers blooms and ferments. This of course sends the birds that drink it quite loopy drunk.
