Saying good-bye
It's been a really difficult day filled with anxiety and sorrow.
I had to make the awful decision to have my 6 year old black cat Pollý put down. I got her as a rescue four years ago and I don't know much about her first two years of life, but she always showed lots of signs of PTSD and compulsive disorder. I am the only human who managed to gain a little bit of her trust and sometimes she would "sleep" near me and let me pet her or brush her fur for a few minutes (my husband & sons and my mother were sort of OK, she didn't run away from them immediately). She was constantly hypervigilant and had a strong tendency to hide. After she got hurt 8 weeks ago (most likely bitten by another cat while outdoors) and had to wear a cone for many days, she had gotten much more stressed and the wound would not heal because of her compulsive licking. Yesterday I saw it had grown to be much bigger and more raw so this morning I had a talk with the vet about the situation. Medical treatment is very difficult with a cat like her so in the end, all things considered, we decided putting her down would be the most humane thing to do. Rest in peace, my dear Pollý.
