Aurora
Thursday 10th October 2024
I took the group to Grasmere today, we walked along the river to the end of the lake. We had intended going to Rydal Hall but we couldn't park the car! Anyway, the walk through the woods was nice and the view of the lake was great, as always. The extra was going to be my blip today but it got bumped out of the way for the above.
After a trip in to Grasmere for refreshments at the teashop we went back to Rydal and this time managed to park the car. We had a short time by the river and waterfall.
We had to rush sorting our photos out so that I could complete the powerpoint, which we were due to show the other group this evening. It all went well.
We were just about to have bedtime hot drinks when someone mentioned there had been an aurora alert. I knew I had to go out! One member of the group and one member of staff came with me. We knew we had to get over the hill but weren't sure where to go. We ended up in Cartmel and I suggested we take a quick look by the Priory to see if we could see anything. As soon as we walked through the gate we could see the colour in the sky by eye. We spent about an hour there enjoying the display.
Back at the hotel I spent time sorting the photos out to do a display for tomorrow morning. Around midnight I had a look outside and discovered a full display was in progress over the bay. It has really made this a special week. Tomorrow's blip will be one of the photos taken just after midnight!
