Tough Day

Granddaughter Elle stopped by after her day of student teaching. She was actually subbing, as her supervising teacher was out for the day. Tragic day at Mac High, as a popular young girl took her life the day before. What do you say about that? I listened to what Elle said to her students, and for such a young person, she said all the right things. Such a tragedy. I had the girl’s mother as a student years ago. I don’t know what else to say. So damn sad. We talked about this: your content (English for Elle) is 1% of teaching; the other 99% is just how we relate to each other as humans. Teaching is the best, the hardest, and the most rewarding of all callings.
