Flags against the sky

Yesterday they started to put the big top up and today it was mostly done and they are fitting out the interior. Apparently it's a one day only event at the weekend for all the circus acts in Brittany - I think it may be part of the calendar where artists change circuses etc.

They don't have any animals, so no exciting camel poo for the dog to sniff. Just a few stakes holing the big top down where he would normally walk - he sniffed them and may have marked one of them...

Can you spot the fault with the flags?

Read on for the answer - one of them shouldn't be there.

From the left to right there are:

Two lions in gold against a red field
An ermine in against a azure field with white cross
Then black and white stripes with ermines in the canton
Finally the tricolour

Do you know?

You could argue that two are the traditional enemy of Brittany - the Normandy lions on the left and the French Tricolour to the right, but as the tricolour came after the unification of France and Brittany it can be let off.

The red and blue flag is the flag of Saint-Malo and is more common here than the Gwenn-ha-du the black and white Brittany flag next to it. Which is odd as the Gwenn-ha-du is very common on everything in Brittany, but in Saint-Malo people claim to be "not French, not Breton, but Malouin"  -‘Ni Français, ni Breton, Malouin suis’....
