A Hive Of Inactivity
Today we decided to continue our tour of Kent villages that we have originally passed on the journey to somewhere else. On this occasion we intended to head for the village of Frittenden but somehow I managed to completely miss the turn off and we ended up taking a very circuitous route to the village of Benenden instead.
Unfortunately, when we stopped for a look around there didn't seem to be very much open. There was a closed pub, a sparsely attended looking cafe, a vast village green and plenty of parked cars but strangely almost no sign of the local population. Therefore, we didn't stop for long and decided to retrace our 'steps' to see if we could finally locate Frittenden.
After going around in circles yet again we eventually came across the appropriate road sign only to find that Frittenden was even quieter than Benenden and that its pub, the really rather wonderfully monikered The Bell & Jorrocks, didn't open until 3 pm. We weren't having much luck!
We decided we would cut our losses and head back home with a quick pit stop at Headcorn for some liquid refreshment. The George & Dragon thankfully was open but again seemed to be sparsely attended by locals and visitors alike. The barman didn't seem particularly happy to see us either and didn't utter a greeting or actually speak a word as he poured us our pints. Charming!
By this stage we were feeling rather disconsolate and had given up hope of even getting an image for the day but decided to persevere with a walk along the High Street to see if we could capture our shots. Nothing immediately presented itself until we came across The Yard - a garden furniture, ornament and plant emporium down a side street. It looked fascinating but sadly it was also closed (we were later to find out it has closed permanently) but I did just manage to grab this shot of a lovely wrought iron beehive through the perimeter fence and it kind of summed up our day - everywhere seemed to be a hive of inactivity!
