Brian's back.......
Think it's Friday,not really sure!
Windy and showers,so decided to get some more calves in and tagged. Did two lots of 5 and moved them and their mothers to different fields, then put all the cows that are still to calves here into one field. Now 24 to go here and about the same next door. Not as far on as some years, but we had a whole herd TB test in January which I think upset them and a good few would come back to the bull after that. Not ideal, but hey ho.
Brian came in at lunch time to look at some blks we are selling. Normally I would keep them till Feb/ March time to sell, but I think we will be short of feed and silage this winter,so the first loss is the best loss. They would maybe be worth more in the spring, but the cost of feeding them all winter would negate the increase ,so a bird in the hand.....
He phoned back later in the afternoon with a buyer willing to pay what we thought they are worth, and ,after a think, I agreed.
Next was a meeting with the accountant to finalise the year's books. Looks like Mr Starmer will be getting some of my money in tax to squander in January again. I begrudge them every penny.
Managed to get another load of barley into the dryer tonight, and had it finished by 9 pm,so another late tea.
