Heritage
I took the photo off television this evening (see below the details where that is available online).
The building now a private home was a church on Berneray in the group of islands that make up the Outer Hebrides. The very interesting feature of the television programme is the concise history of the building in Scotland of 32 churches throughout Scotland (I think was the number) as result of the granting of $50,000 by Parliament towards that project. The year the Church was built was 1829 (relying on memory).
The last minister of a second church was able to recount some knowledge of the church as particularly his grandmother's brother was the last minister of the aforementioned church that has been restored. The Berneray church was last functional as far as he could recall between 1922-1927.
The reason for my interest: I have wished I could access knowledge of where my father who was born and bred in Aberdeen went farming in the Scottish Highlands at 15 years of age in 1920. He did that for most of the 2 years until he left for Australia. A feature of that period was on Sundays he rode a bicycle to the local kirk to play the organ. I cannot imagine now - this evening - that the building would not have been one of this group of churches.
ABC iView
I have taken the photo off a television programme this evening, Episode 22 of Series 2 of Restoration Man, that is now available on ABC iView for those of you who have access to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and might like to view this interesting 50 minutes.
I am able to view it at no cost, but unfortunately not everybody can. It depends on the agreement your internet provider has with the ABC. I hope the link works if you want to watch.
Regarding this restoration: the work is beautiful, awe inspiring. I hope no-one ever comes and builds in front of them. :)
