Glossa

The Island of Skopelos is a very Green, mountainous and beautiful Island.

Having been here for a tad over three weeks now, we've pretty much been along every dirt track from one end of the island to the other, my conclusion is that the only two truly flat / level pieces of road are those by the the harbours in Skopelos Town, Loutraki, Neo Klima and Panaramos. Every where else there's either a slight incline or "We're never going to get up there" and every sort of hill inbetween.
As tradition dictates we've hired a Suzuki Jimny for the duration of our stay, and as usual it's been absolutely bomb proof. It's taken us everywhere we wanted to go, including the track to the Ghourouni Lighthouse (Beware of the Snakes), the three longest offroad tracks on the island which cross the top of Mount Dhelphi which forms the backbone of the island. And finally the suspension destroying track upto the radio masts on Mount Palouki above Skopelos Town.
The tracks to the lighthouse and the radio mast were taken extremely slowly due to the roughness of the surface and the huge drops that were encountered along the way. These two track are very exposed to the winds that can be at times quite strong, but suprisingly are the home to hundreds of Butterflies. The common denominator of the two tracks which are at the opposite ends of the island, were what looked like heathers with lots of beautiful purple flowers on them.
The views from some of the places we've been to are simply "too die for"............
Stunning........
Today's image was taken on my way to the local bakery up in Glossa to get some fresh bread. I don't know if you're like me, but i've just got to tear a chunk off the loaf and eat it. And it has to be said that a torn chunk of bread always tastes better than a slice of that very same loaf, not quite sure how that works..........
Glossa is a very very pretty village unspoilt by the commercialism that you see so often in the Mediteranean.......
If you ever happen to visit Skopelos, you have to book a table at the Agnanti restaurant in Glossa. It's a roof top restaurant, early evening the swallow, by the hundred, put our Red Arrows to Shame, some just feet over our heads. As the Swallows start to leave to roost for the night, in come the Eleanor Falcons. Initially we thought they were trying to catch and eat the Swallows, but no, they were feasting on the insect over head, they were simply doing as the Swallows had been doing a little earlier. I've seen single Raptors singley or perhaps in pairs, but never fifty or sixty together..........
An amazing sight.
We've been to Agnanti's twice so far during our stay, one visit substantially later than the other. The early visit incorporated the Swallows and Falcons, ,the latter, stunning views of the night sky and the Milky Way..............
The restaurant itself, is second to none, location, cleanliness, service, all perfect, the menu, excellent, something for everyone, and very reasonably priced.
Be sure to book.....Agnanti Restaurant.......
