A Change of Identity.......

It was a beautiful somewhat cool morning with temperatures in the 60's as we gathered at FBC for worship this morning, but before this day was over, the thermometers would be reminding us that the calendars may say it is Fall, but temperatures would be hanging out right around the 100 degree mark! Nevertheless, we had much to thank God for as we began our service with a congregational song. After the welcome by Matt, we were blessed to witness the baptism of a young boy just beginning a new life in Christ. After the baptism the choir, orchestra and all our talented accompanists presented a joyful rendition of "Hallowed Be Thy Name". The congregation then joined in singing a few more songs and then Pastor Wes directed us back to Ephesians 4 where Paul cautioned the believers not to be deceived by those who might try to draw them away from following the teachings of Jesus in favor of doing things in a more socially or politically correct way. Paul told the Ephesian believers to remember that they were not the same people with the same values after they accepted Jesus as Saviour and Lord. He told them three things that they should do as they sought to follow Jesus. He said they should take off the old identity of sin, renew their minds continually by heeding God's Word and then put on their new identity as a child of God. If you wonder what all that means, Pastor Wes had much more to say that you can see on the Live-stream and he said he would have even more to say about the practical aspects of living out this new identity over the next few weeks. I am certainly looking forward to it! Oh, there is pink in my collage to remind you of Pinktober, though you may have to search for it.
