Further afield

We were up and out fairly early and drove through sparkling sunshine to Dundee. The autumn colours in the trees were beautiful, obviously more so because of the sunshine, and it was a lovely drive. We enjoyed a coffee in the V&A cafe then went into the Kimono exhibition (thanks for the tip off Munroist!). It was really excellent, with just the right amount of explanation and contextual information, and we really enjoyed wandering round (enhanced by there being very few people seeing it…the numbers were just building up as we left).
From there we drove to St Andrews where we had a delicious meal in Dulse, a seafood restaurant (the cheese and leek bread with miso butter portion that we ordered was immense and delicious!) where I had bouillabaisse- keeping it light.
We wandered around the town browsing a few places, then went down to the beach for a good walk to get some fresh air and exercise before DK has to sit on a plane back to Sydney tomorrow. The sky was a beautiful shifting pattern of pale blues and soft greys as a haze moved across, and there were plenty of people doing the walk along and back the huge sweep of sand as the tide went out….it was lovely. Amazingly it wasn’t windy and DK even said it was surprisingly warm (quite a shock as she’s usually cold!).
We drove home and we had a sit down and cup of tea before walking down to see The Outrun film. Gorgeous Orkney scenes, very creative soundscape and an excellent performance from Saoirse Ronan. I just closed my eyes for some of the London scenes as I knew what was coming.. We walked home chatting about the film, whether she’d packed a swimming costume in her small rucksack when she went to Papay and the role of techno music for the main character, and the force of wind on Orkney.
We caught up on the news with a cup of liquorice tea before bed. Another good day and 8 more miles of walking
