Something Fishy

It’s been a quiet Saturday… Milo’s up in Nottingham visiting Liv, and V has been out with family for most of the day. The weather has changed abruptly again, with heavy rain in the morning. I settled in at home catching up with a few bits and pieces – and in the afternoon took Gabriel into Canterbury for a driving lesson. Later in the day, the sun returned and the afternoon light was lovely. I stopped on the way back from town to get my picture for the day; this was taken along Singledge Lane, a couple of kilometres from Whitfield. First time out for a new lens, the Moment 14mm fish-eye, which gives a 200-degree field of view (or so it says on the tin). I’ve been getting some interesting results, and with the right subject the distortion works well. But – it is very, very soft in the corners… coke bottle soft, in fact, so you could not use this for architecture or anywhere edge-to-edge sharpness is important. I don’t think that’s the intended purpose for this lens though, and for dramatic curvy images, and playing with the light, it’s great.
