Here, there and everywhere!
Another hectic day!
We were up and out around 9am, no mean feat with a teenager who likes to have a lie in. I said to Ben maybe you don’t want to come away with Nana anymore if you like to lie in when you are off school. Oh no he said I love to get away somewhere.good.
We had coffee and pastry at a different place than yesterday but still near our place. We headed to the tram stop afterwards and got the tram to Leidseplein. The weather was lovely so we had a great wander round the beautiful canal area , sat in the sunshine overlooking the canal at a nice coffee place, and it was quite warm. This was a quieter area and the houses were stunning.
We walked down towards Dam Square, passed by the area where all the cruise boats are moored.
I had an idea earlier that Ben would like to go to the street art museum over the river called STRAAT. They are housed in an old warehouse and the quality was fabulous. We were there a couple of hours and Ben really enjoyed it.
We got the free Ferry over and went back again on it . We went back to the Vondelpark (where our guest house is and had a cuppa and a chill out .
Headed back out for some food as we had a booking at the Anna Frank House for 7:15. I booked the half hour Introductory talk before the tour which very very good.
There was about twenty people in a ‘classroom’ with a photo timeline on the wall. I was amazed at how many pictures there was of Anne and her family. There was also a screen with a couple of videos which were interesting too. The lady who did the talk was very good and asked questions to us as well. I would say that the half hour introductory talk was a good thing to have before the tour of the house. Ben also thought it good.
Seeing the rooms where Anne and the others lived brought out lots of emotions. The reason why and then the events that followed. I must say too that everyone was very respectful and although busy, us all snaking round and up stairs it was all very respectful.
Ben and I had a discussion about it on the walk back to the tram stop. We realised too that Mum was born in the same year as Anne, 1929, and mum lived till she was almost 94.
The canals around AFH are lovely and all lit up at night. It was pretty. Took our mind off the awful story we had just heard and seen.
