Beautiful
Peebles is a lovely Scottish Borders town. It has a lovely feel to it with a number of good independent shops and some nice architecture along the High Street. During our walk we came across this beautiful cross - probably the most wonderful war memorial I have ever come across. It is situated in the Quadrangle (through the archway beneath the Chambers Institute) High Street, Peebles
This cross was unveiled in 1922 by Field Marshal Earl Haig of Bemersyde. The plaques next to the cross list the names of 225 locals who were killed in the First World War. The names of the Second World War fallen were added later. County of Peebles | War Imperial War Museums (iwm.org.uk)
We went the scenic route back to Dumfries - Selkirk, Eskdalemuir, Lockerbie - such stunning landscape, in particular in glorious autumn sunshine.
Though only one night away, it was a lovely break - back to work tomorrow.
