TDF is over :(
Life as we know it is over for another year as the Tour de France finished yesterday with a most exciting sprint down the Champs Éleysées and the amazing Mark Cavendish getting pipped to the post by the equally amazing Marcel Kittel. There is just something so cool watching the riders ride at full pelt round the Arc de triomphe and hitting 65 km/h on the cobbled streets - spectacular.
The best thing for me was watching it with daughter number 1. She was loving it and sat on my knee shouting Go Cav! Go Cav! Go Cav! I really enjoyed the 100th TDF but by a country mile this was my favourite part of it, sharing the excitement with my little girl. We watched the podium awards ceremony and when she realised the riders got a stuffed lion as a prize she told me that she was going to get rid of the stabilisers from her bike so she could race through Paris on her bike and win one.
I have come to realise as I get older that all kids really need is for you to spend a bit of time with them and give them memories that they will hold dear. I remember when I was a kid watching the World cup, I couldn't tell you which one it was but I have a vivid memory of sitting with all the family cheering Scotland on without really understanding what was going on. I hope that D1 will remember last night and hopefully I have imparted a bit of my passion for cycling on to her
