Knapp of Howar

These are 2 neolithic 5500 year old houses. Amazingly just fenced off to keep the cows out. It's great that you can walk through and around and imagine how the people lived here. The doorways and connecting passage are very small, it doesn't mean that the people were wee, it's to keep out the wind and also to bow in deference as you enter the home. An utterly gorgeous spot and one that is believed to once have been connected to the island of Westray in the distance.


There must be loads more around here, just not been discovered yet.
