abandoned railways
the Invergarry and Fort Augustus railway branched north from the 'West Hghland' line and ran until 1933 with three trains a day in summer to the pier at Fort Augustus where steamers waited to take passengers north along Loch Ness to Inverness...the North british company wanted to build the line onwards to Inverness but passengers preferred steamers...today the abandoned line is popular with walkers and cyclists on this"Great Glen Way"
