Small Tortoiseshell

I have never really studied butterflies - in fact the only ones I thought I recognised were the Cabbage White and the Red Admiral.

However, on researching this butterfly (which I thought was a RA), I realised that it was in fact a Small Tortoiseshell. The colours are similar to the RA but the markings are different.

The tortoiseshell apparently likes feeding on Buddleia which we have in the garden but as it spent half an hour on the lavender, I guess she must have found it equally as nutritious!
