Funiculi Funiculà
Saltburn- by- the -sea .
Shot shows the funicular cliff tramway and the pier.
The Cliff Tramway opened in 1884 to replace a vertical hoist and is now the oldest water balanced funicular still in operation in Great Britain.
It links the Victorian town of Saltburn with the only remaining pier on the whole North East and Yorkshire coast.
The funicular has just reopened after it was damaged by fire in January, and of course we had to have a trip from the bottom up to the top.Which is when I took the photo.
As always lunch was fish and chips for MrC and Scampi and chips for me . Sat on the promenade overlooking the pier.
However before Saltburn we drove to Runswick Bay where we had a walk round the village and then along the beach.
Well that is where I had an unexpected Blipmeet with fellow blipper HFI.!
I knew she had been to Runswick Bay yesterday and did mention that we were going today, but didn’t expect to bump into her.
I could see a lady a little ahead of us who kept looking back at us. Then getting closer said ‘ Hello’.With the reply, “ Are you ValC?”
We have never met before as H. Lives in Dorset, but followed one another for a few years.
Funny how you meet and feel like old friends!
After a short walk along the beach, chatting, we were introduced to H’s husband, and then we walked back to the village, while they continued with their walk.
I have put a postcard of Runswick Bay on as an extra.
