Rosa Rugosa

I could resist blipping this gorgeous rose blooming in a hedgerow this morning. We thought gosh, that’s late but it turns out this rose will bloom until the first frost.

Apparently it is also known as the Japanese Rose or Wild Rose and is probably one of the parents of many roses we have today. It seems it is incredibly hardy; growing in salty coastal environments, sandy soils and windy places. It’s tough, disease resistant, vigorous and sprawling.

It became very warm this afternoon with outside temperatures reaching over 18c. A bit of drama at Bearsted railway station as I was coming home. It seems that a train had a fault with its brakes causing smoke and possibly a small fire. Nobody was injured, however the traffic backed all around the village just as all the schools were coming out.

I was fortunate to close to home and able to divert quite quickly or I may still be there now.
