On the pond
We had a trouble free journey to our caravan site near Chester this morning, got pitched up in drizzle and damp but before the rain took hold we explored some of the area around us. We came across a lovely pond in Christleton, once just a pit but which is now looked after by the Christleton Parish Council and Pit Project Group.
The information board states that 'It is not known when the first excavations were made in Little Heath Common. In the 18th Centuary the common was the source of clay for bricklaying, gravel for road making and marl, a form of clay, which was spread on farmland to improve its quality. The pit was the largest of the excavations, three smaller ponds in adjacent fields and one dry pit have been filled in and one other pond remains.'
Glad we found this one as it is home to a host of bird life, plants , fish and other pond loving creatures. The next good find was the local pub, which claims to have 'the best pub food in Cheshire'. We're going to book Sunday lunch there, and we shall give our review!!
