Getting the sparkle back

Singing robin

As often happens, I heard this robin, then looked for it and saw it at the top of a tree. I'm glad we've got robins as they sing all year round. I suppose that just means that they defend their territories all year round, but I'm glad they do. I wonder how they decide what to sing as they seem to have endless invention. Incidentally, the reason that they are called robin redbreast is that the word for orange hadn't been invented when they were first called that. I think it also has to be said that robin orange breast just doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

I blipped this on the way to my literature class where we had our first week on The Translator by Leila Aboulela. One of the class wasn't keen on it but I think the rest of us thought well of it.
