Urban Autumn (again)...
... and a bit of Swedish literary history.
In town once more for a back treatment, and later for Film Studio. This is one corner of our town square, and that impressive building is a bank.
If you look up to the right you can see the beginning of a text reading "Alfhild was here". It looks like graffiti but is actually one of several artworks celebrating Alfhild Agrell (Wikipedia), a very successful writer of feminist plays and novels in the late 1800's, who came from Härnösand. Despite great success and controversy in her lifetime she was largely forgotten after her death. Agrell was rediscovered in the 1990's and her works are now back in print, and at least one of her plays has been performed this century.
As you also see in the picture many trees have now lost their leaves, but we are continuing to enjoy rather lovely weather.
We saw a French film at Film Studio; The Night of the 12th. Interesting as a police procedure film in which you are told at the beginning that the case was not solved. Peter Bradshaw wrote a review in the Guardian. As well as the unsolved whodunit aspect, the film also looks at how a murder affects those around the tragedy, including family, friends and the police, and discusses men's attitudes towards women that Alfhild Agrell would certainly have recognised.
The extra was taken from the theatre car park as we headed into Film Studio at seven o'clock. Some car parks have a good view!
PS As I posted this I noticed I'd somehow not posted on the 14th. On that day the picture is also "Urban Autumn"!
