Cycles

I’ve been watching lots of videos whilst I’ve been less active than usual. Many of them have been about permaculture. It’s an approach I’d like to use more to inform how I do things at the allotment. I think it will be important to take things gradually and focus on a few things so as to avoid being swamped. I’m starting off by thinking about how I can protect the health of the soil over-winter using mulches, for example. And I’m considering how in the coming year I can increase the amount of compost I produce.

It’s been another mild day but this time one filled with gentle autumn sunshine and a calming stillness. These fungi are growing in the big log in the meadow where we walk Merlin. The wet and mild conditions must suit them well. As I took Merlin for his walk earlier than usual, he now thinks it’s his dinner time and I have forgotten to feed him.
