The shape of things to come ?

I was getting off the ferry at Gourock this morning, when I noticed that the boat steps were flooded  at the lowest level.  Nothing very unusual in that - they are designed to allow usage at any stage of the tide - but the image also reminded me that water levels are rising and that even here one day (perhaps not too distant) they will be beyond the expectations of even a decade ago.
