in the days of horse drawn carraiges travelling from Dublin to Kilkenny this was the overnight stop for the horses and humans to be fed and watered... it's other claim  to fame is that Clint Eastwood stopped in for a pint of Guinness sometime in the 70's...his photograph enjoying it with the owner still adorns the wall...
