Stilts

Back in the day, before Cornelius Vermuiden drained much of the wetlands around here, the local duck hunters and eel catchers used to walk about on stilts. I have read that when the Vikings invaded they took one look at the fens inhabited by people on stilts and plagued by malaria, and passed through rather quickly. Denver up the road translates as 'Dane way'. I think this heron is trying to resurrect a trend.
