Battery replaced
A couple of weeks ago, my UPS started beeping and indicating the battery needed to be replaced. I ordered a new battery and that’s been laying around for a while. Yesterday I tested the capacity of the old battery and found out it dropped from 100% to around 20% within one minute after unplugging the ups from the main power. With a load of only 10% of what it is supposed to be able to handle, the battery should last for over an hour. So it was definitely time to replace the battery and that’s what I did today.
In case you’re wondering: I have the UPS mostly to handle small power dips that we have quite frequently. The lights turn dim for around half a second. Whenever those dips occurred, my cable modem would drop the connection and I would be without internet for around 10 minutes. In itself that’s ok, but it happened four times while I was working from home and I was disconnected from the online meetings I was participating in. The UPS keeps me online in those situations and has done so for a few times in the three years that I’ve had it. Even though the old battery could still handle those small dips, I’ve replaced it to be sure the UPS won’t fail on me when I need it again.
