Peak Crocus Time
... for Autumn anyway! A complete contrast to yesterday's gloom and wet, today was sunny and dry. A relief. A walk with C and the Megs - is it their last visit of the year?? Then after lunch a couple of hours doing useful things in and around the greenhouse, including taking lots of pictures :-) Not only crocuses, there are various South African bulbs in flower too. Most of these will provide colour and interest for longer than the delicate crocus flowers so they are equally welcome. A couple above, sandwiched between six different crocuses. Lachenalia pygmaea with it's eruption of white flowers, the anthers purple before splitting open to release yellow pollen and pale pink Oxalis polyphylla, it's froth of many extremely narrow leaves just out of shot .
I had to take a break to go and have my flu jab and alittle later I headed to the Library where friend Jean was giving a talk on the ancient pilgrim route from Tywyn to Bardsey Island. Home briefly for a slow cooker tea before an evening glazing at pottery with a small, select group of friends :-)
