Friday blip

It has now been exactly a week since my restorative week in Bamburgh, and the long drive home. Which I did without any hiccups, just felt shattered once I was back in Gresham and fell asleep on the sofa.

For those who are not aware, I was signed off by the doctor with stress 2 weeks ago. He gave me a month and I’ll be due back to work on 4th November. This is why I was able to accept Manda’s kind offer of some time away. Looking back, 2 weeks on from the drs appointment I am now starting to feel calmer. Which I hope means I will be back at my desk on 4th. I’m aware that my movements are being reported back to the management by someone on Facebook but as far as I am concerned I am doing exactly what the doctor said. Get away from the cause of the stress (work) walk, relax, and don’t be pressured by myself or anyone else to do something I don’t want to do.

This week I have been mostly in the garden. Digging out my beds which are full of ground elder and that horrible thick grass that runs along under the soil then pops up vigorously. I am unable to save most of my plants because the roots are entwined with the ground elder. But I like the idea of starting afresh with it, so I have a few hydrangea and salvia cuttings and I’ve saved some lavender. I also have lots of small verbena which have grown in the patio cracks. I will move some to the back of my bed. Gardening is definitely good therapy and is a place I can listen to a good podcast and not think about life troubles.

This week I have had some nice messages, flowers and even a complete Cornish cream in a box (thank you Sandra) send to me. People are kind.

Today I did my food shop as usual, then on checking my bank, discovered they had charged me twice. Hence my reason for being back in Cromer now, and not at home weeding. The double payment was sorted very quickly and as I was in town I decided to make the most of it, and bought a roll, some cheese and a cup of tea and I’m enjoying it by the sea.

Lots of people are still enjoying the beach, with wetsuits lined up ready for a group. Don’t think I’m likely to get another swim in this year now, but you never know. If this late sun continues I might get one more opportunity.
