Quod oculus meus videt

Colours Turning

One of my favourite locations on Cannock Chase, where a line of beech trees stand in front of one of the mature conifer plantations.  There still a bit of time before the autumn colours are at their best, but the just risen sun penetrated this small section of the path to make this image.

Afterwards I went down to Brocton Quarry and met quite a few fallow deer bucks and their ladies.  There was still a lot of posturing and roaring going on but in the couple of hours I was there, no fighting took place.

The good weather got me in the garden in the afternoon, collecting the leaves that have fallen so far and generally putting things to bed for the winter.  Our last green collection is next week, despite the majority of leaves still being on the branches of the trees.  The Council seems to suspend collections earlier and earlier each year.
