Penguins
Today we left Lake Tekapo having had breakfast in the Greedy Cow cafe. Our destination was Oamaru back on the pacific coast. We stopped at a Mount Cook viewpoint - see extra - and continued onto Kurow for Elevenses. Bright sunshine and we passed lots more lakes. We arrived in Oamuru in the early afternoon - this is our final point before we head northwards again. We had a wander round the town. The steam train was celebrating its 100th anniversary and a brass band was playing. I have included another extra of some of the town's architecture.
This evening we went to the Penguin Parade. Hundreds of blue penguins return from their day at sea and walk up the rocks back into their burrows. We saw just over 200. We didn't count them, but they are all chipped/tagged and the staff monitor them remotely. A really lovely experience. No photography allowed.
