Rose and Marvin, Siblings
It has been a whirlwind two days in which I haven't even seen Leif at all so far, though she's still here. Summer in the Pacific Northwest is a great time for weddings. There was Alyssa and Kenyon's wedding yesterday of course, and then this morning, a visit from newlyweds Pego and Rose, and Rose's brother Marvin and his wife Sherry.
I thought I would blip the newlyweds, but instead I fell in love with this slightly-soft-edged picture of these two remarkable siblings. Rose was born the eldest of five brothers, but by the time she was five, she knew she was "different," and before she was in high school, she had figured out that she was in the wrong body. She made the transition to being a woman many years ago and realized at that time that she is a lesbian. She and Pego were already a couple when I met them thirteen years ago, and thanks to the recent Supreme Court decision, they are now married. They live in Texas, but they married in California last week and are visiting family in Oregon now.
Rose grew up in Kansas and kept her identity secret until her brothers were grown, but all have been accepting of her transition, all have welcomed Pego into the family, and Marvin, as is apparent in this photograph, had a case of hero-worship for his big brother when he was a child and admires Rose now even more than he did when they were children.
I can't comment much because I need to find some time to spend with Leif. Fortunately she is terrific at amusing herself and loves solitude, and she has had plenty of time to herself the last couple of days.
