Indian Elephants in Manhattan

Another back blip from the start of my holiday. My first day of sightseeing in NYC as we had spent a quiet weekend just catching up. We had a busy day - my first experience of catching the local buses, and of course lots of walking. We went to the amazing display of elephants - life size Indian elephants made from the invasive Lantana plants in India. The movements of the elephants had been captured beautifully and we spent much time admiring them.  From here we went to the second largest Starbucks store in America where we enjoyed delicious coffee, seeing the whole process of the coffee beans being roasted, wandering around seeing the many souvenirs (I bought a coffee mug!) and tasting different coffees.
Next we went to Little Island on the Hudson river,, a man made island where we relaxed and had the picnic we had taken with us. From here we walked along the Highline, such an interesting walk along the old railway track that meanders through more amazing buildings and apartment blocks. Also lots of sculptures and murals along the way.
A quick rest back home before we went to the Ballet - the 90th anniversary performance of the School of American Ballet. The three ballet performances were so beautiful. (Before the ballet we went to a wine bar for a drink - another great experience!)
We caught the train and bus home, which is so different to our way of getting around in SA where our public transport is sadly lacking, and not safe.
The extras are of a view from the Highline, an example of the sculptures on the Highline, Little Island, and the coffee beans being roasted at the Starbucks store.
