21, again!! Day 5

Au revoir La France et Le Bretagne

(My third extra was my intended blip, but P insisted I used Pierre Le Bear!)

Out at 8am (in the dark), passing the market hall to do some last min food and drink shopping. Collected cases from hotel and trundled towards port. Two mins away from ferry terminal the sirens started and the road bridge opened! Half an hour later, after watching the French Navy sail by, finally reached check in, one minute past the latest check in deadline. Stressed!

Captain set sail ten mins earlier than scheduled (while we were dumping cases in cabin) so I missed the shot I wanted to get, leaving the walled city of Saint Malo. Nevertheless the skyline still makes a striking pic, or two! Sailed out past the various Vauban fortress islands and lighthouses. Very smooth sailing on a very quiet ship, probably the last time I’ll sail on the Bretagne as it goes out of service at the end of the month. Have many, many happy memories of holidays that started/ended on the Bretagne.

Back in Portsmouth, after a nine hour crossing, P’s husband picked us up and we were back in Oxfordshire by 8pm. Loved every minute of our French mini break, wish it hadn’t ended...

Thank you so much for all your recent kind stars and hearts. Am now back home and backblipping but am out very shortly (continuing the French theme!) so an early blip, update tomorrow!
