The Sun Retires Behind Hoy

After attending the Flotta Harvest Home last night – home at 02.00hrs – I realise I shouldn’t have.  Norris and Doris made an unexpected appearance.  Doris indicated, loudly, to all of the company, that Noris couldn’t get his breeks on.  He replied that he last wore them at the Burns Supper.  She had to ‘adjust’ them.  This may have been the highlight of the night.  Davie Foub missed the boat.  Because of wind strength, and airt, and full tide, the Flotta launch (which picked us up) couldn’t get in alongside Lyness to pick folk up fae Hoy.  So numbers were down.  For the past many years the standard of food has been truly excellent.  This was all down to Davie H.  What we hadn’t realised is that he is now retired.  The food was a real disappointment.  The music was tip-top with Murray Cowie being vibrant and full of banter, despite a really difficult audience for him to play to.  In other words the amount of keen dancers was very low.  I tried a waltz, but my bursitis wishes I hadn’t.  As in the Old Kent Road it’s back to square 1.  Tomorrow we anticipate Zephyr Algernon.  I  was taken aback today by receiving a phone call from an Edinburgh property developer.  CMC pulled out all the stops and made a super teatime treat.
