Buses, trains and trams

Backblipped Saturday for Thursday

We’d booked tickets on the Ferrocarril de Sóller - a wooden train dating back to the turn of the 20th century which runs on tracks set in the road between Palma and Sóller, 27km north west of Palma. So after breakfast we headed to the bus stop to take us to Palma and walked the shirt distance to the train stations it was pretty crowded on the platform with a few people manoeuvring themselves through the crowds but we were happy to wait our turn as they only sell enough tickets to fill every seat.

A rather refreshing journey through some pretty spectacular scenery before arriving at Sóller. We had a quick wander about looking for somewhere for lunch but decided we’d have more luck in Port de Sóller so jumped in the next tram for the 5.8km journey to the sea. Well worth the trip even if I ended up standing between two seats as it afforded me great views.

A nice walk round the back streets before we found a cafe for a menu del dia. Bread, drinks a two course meal and coffee for €14.90 each was a bit of a bargain.

Walked down the hill to the tram stop and we did the journey in reverse, arriving back in Magaluf just after 8pm. We headed for what is becoming our local(!), Finnegans, for a refreshing pint or two of Guiness and a lovely steak pie with mashed potato. The singer tonight was very good and we were glad to be indoors when the heavens opened and it poured for 15 minutes. Luckily it had stopped by the time we headed back to the hotel.

Thanks to Ingeborg for hosting AbstractThursday. The only autumnal thing I saw was some drying leaves as we walked home.
