Violet coral fungus

This morning we shovelled the new gravel into place, hard work but it didn’t take all day, and the sun shone down on us! We now have a good second parking area, which is not awash with mud.
The reward after that was a trip out to Kirkby Lonsdale cricket pitch! This has been kept beautifully mowed, and not fertilised, for many decades. It is now an excellent wax cap fungus site, and Rob and Lynne spent some time on blended knee photographing various species.
Bonnie and I walked around the outside several times, and I had a little look at the fungi before we left.
This violet coral fungus is my favourite that we saw, it grows to 5cm or so and hides down in the grass, but we counted around 20 clumps.
I think we are due some heavy rains tomorrow, which will wash the new gravel for us!
